Generative AI Policy

Jurnal Wacana Politik acknowledges the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and writing. This policy sets out the journal's position on the use of AI tools by authors, reviewers, and editors.

For Authors

AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authorship requires accountability for the work, which AI tools cannot fulfill. Only human individuals who meet the journal's authorship criteria may be listed as authors.

Authors who used AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Grammarly AI, or similar tools) in the preparation of their manuscript must disclose this use in the Methods section or Acknowledgments, describing which tool was used and for what purpose.

The use of AI tools is permitted, with disclosure, for:

  • Language editing and grammar checking
  • Literature search assistance
  • Data analysis support
  • Formatting and reference management assistance

The use of AI tools is not permitted for:

  • Generating substantial portions of the manuscript's intellectual content without disclosure
  • Fabricating or falsifying data, citations, or sources
  • Creating or manipulating images or figures in ways that misrepresent research findings

Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all content in their manuscript, including any AI-assisted content. AI-generated text may contain errors, fabricated references, or plagiarized material; it is the authors' responsibility to verify all such content before submission.

For Reviewers

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, or any part of them, into Generative AI tools, as this violates the confidentiality of the peer review process and may breach the authors' data rights. Reviewers must also not use AI tools to generate their review reports. The critical evaluation of a manuscript requires human expertise and accountability, and reviewers are responsible for the content of their reviews.

For Editors

Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, or any part of them, into Generative AI tools. Editorial decisions and decision letters are the responsibility of the editors and must not be delegated to AI tools. Editors may use AI-assisted tools provided by the journal's submission system (e.g., plagiarism detection) as part of the standard editorial workflow.

Violations

Failure to comply with this policy may result in rejection of the manuscript or, if discovered after publication, retraction of the article in accordance with the journal's Retraction and Correction Policy. Cases will be handled in line with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
